Our Approach to Preparing Yoga Educators

Nosara Yoga Institute offers an inquiry-based, interdisciplinary approach to yoga that places the highest value on delving into the very roots of yogic inquiry. Among the choices for training as a yoga teacher at Nosara Yoga Institute, you will discover a spectrum of educational opportunities for deepening your yoga practice and for furthering your skillfulness as a
professional yoga educator.

Throughout our broad-based curriculum you will discover an emphasis upon teacher creativity as the essential ingredient for offering vibrant learning experiences. You will explore a combination of contemporary approaches to wellness, adult learning psychology and psycho-spiritual self-development that draw from the genius of our age. While honoring the history of yoga, these training modules take an evolutionary approach to yoga that helps you access inspiration for lifelong yoga teaching and practice.

200 Hr NYI Interdisciplinary Yoga Teacher Certification

500 Hr NYI Professional Yoga Educator Certification

  • Prerequisite: 200 Hr NYI Interdisciplinary Yoga Teacher Training or other Yoga Alliance-Approved 200 Hr Yoga Teacher Training (Proof of Registration or certificate required to receive NYI credit)

  • Required: 100 Hr Inner Quest of the Yoga Educator

  • Electives: Choose two additional modules to accumulate a total of 500 Hours (See Calendar) 

  • Required by Yoga Alliance: 100 Hours of documented teaching experience. 500-1000hr Teaching Hours Log

To apply: Scan or fax a copy of your 200 hr Certificate from a Yoga Alliance School, at the same time you register on line for one of the Modules. NYI will maintain your transcript records and notify you when you have accumulated 500 hour and will award you your certificate upon graduation of your last Module.

1000 Hr NYI Yoga Educator/Leadership Certification

  • Prerequisite: 200 Hr NYI Interdisciplinary Yoga Teacher Training or other Yoga Alliance-Approved 200 Hr. Yoga Teacher Training Certificate

  • Prerequisite: 500 Hr NYI Yoga Educator Certification or 500 Hr Certification Training from another pre-approved, affiliated Yoga School

  • Required: 100 Hr Inner Quest of the Yoga Educator (If not already taken for 500 Hr Certification)

  • Electives: Choose additional NYI modules to accumulate a total of 1000 Hours. (See Calendar)

  • Required: 500 Hours of documented teaching experience. Teaching Hours Log

To Apply: Scan or fax a copy of your 500 hr Certificate from NYI or a pre-approved, affiliated Yoga Alliance School at the same time you register on line for one of the Modules. NYI will maintain your transcript records and notify you when you have accumulated 1000 hr, and will award you your certificate upon graduation of your last module. (You will also receive a certificate after each individual module you complete).


All courses are designed and delivered by Nosara Yoga Institute Faculty. Our teachers have been teaching yoga for an average of 15 to 20 years. See faculty bio’s HERE for complete credentials.

Records Keeping: NYI maintains student files and will send out an updated transcript to each student as they complete each module.
